London Metropolitan University
166-220 Holloway Road, London N7 8DB
Friday 6 June 2008
We will explore through both theory and practical exercises how Zen meditation and philosophy can support counsellors, teachers and psychotherapists in their daily life and in their work with clients/students.
Zen flourished in China as the amalgamation of Daoism and the radical philosophy of Nagarjuna. Rather than offering a system of beliefs, Zen practice is a thorough approach that emphasizes embodied presence, openness to experience, appreciation of impermanence, and joyful affirmation of living-and-dying.
There will be an introductory talk, silent and guided meditation, dyad and group work, and discussion.
For more information contact Hugh Clarke 020 7133 2093 or email h.clarke@londonmet.ac.uk.
Sharpham College, Devon
22-24 August 2008
An exploration through theory and practice of a Zen metaphor for the appreciation of life. 'One Bright Pearl' encompasses joy and sorrow, sun and rain. It "hangs suspended in emptiness" and is found hidden in the clothes of a beggar, who is unaware of it.
There will be silent meditation, dyad and group work, brief talks and discussion. It will be of particular interest to those who wish to integrate meditation practice with psychotherapy and the arts and is suitable to both beginners and experienced practitioners.
